Facebook Starts to Integrate Instagram Direct & Messenger

Facebook has announced it’s plans for new cross-messaging functionality which will integrate Messenger and Instagram Direct. The company states having so many messaging options can be confusing for users as some users find it difficult to find certain conversation threads. Therefore, Facebook wants to make the user experience even more seamless and convenient by brining all messages into a single platform. The goal of the company is to have all of its messaging platforms connected which include Messenger, Instagram Direct, and WhatsApp, so users of all these apps are able to message one another without having to download each app. That being said, this cross-platform messaging network can open up new opportunities for eCommerce and marketing!

With this new integration, people using the Messenger app can now reach you on Instagram without you having to download a new app and vice versa. You are also able to choose where you receive your messages and calls such as in your chats or messenger requests. You’ll be able to see your Messenger threads in Instagram Direct. However, as of now, existing Instagram messages/calls will only be available in Instagram. WhatsApp is also not included with this announcement just yet as Facebook states they are still determining how to integrate this app with their cross messaging plan for all apps.

Facebook is also rolling out some new features/functions with this new step. New features for Messenger/Instagram include:

Selfie Stickers

As said by Facebook, think a mix of selfies, emojis, and boomerangs when envisioning these new animated stickers! These stickers will also be a new way to react to conversations.

Watch Together

Instagram users will also be able to be join Watch Together video allowing them to co-watch parties via Messenger. The company also states they will enable Watch Together for Instagram Reels and IGTV.

Vanish Mode

This is a fun one! Facebook is adding a new Vanish Mode to its messaging. This will allow users to send messages which disappear after they are seen.

Chat Colors

Facebook is also to add new color theme options to choose from for your chats in Messenger/Instagram.

Custom Emoji Reactions

You will also have the option to respond to messages in both Messenger and Instagram with quick emoji reactions. You can also customize your emoji reaction set.

Message Controls

Users will also have the option for who can message them through each app and where to store messages. This is part of the company’s efforts for additional reporting and blocking capacity, which is being made available with the new integration. Users will be able to report full conversations as well as single messages on Instagram. Users will also receive blocking suggestions on Instagram and Messenger.

Facebook’s plans for this new messaging integration will allow it to be even more convenient for users to connect. The company states it’s rolling out these new features across Instagram and Facebook in a few countries initially, with a global roll out coming soon!
