Facebook to Remove Some Info Sections on Business Pages

If you own a Facebook Business Page, listen up. Some changes to the info section on your page is coming your way beginning August 1st.

Facebook page change

In the above image, borrowed from Social Media Today’s article on this topic, we can see a little preview of how Facebook is notifying Business Page users of the upcoming change.

The following sections are going to be removed from Business Pages:

  • Mission
  • Company Overview
  • Biography
  • Affiliation
  • Personal Interests

Admittedly, at first glance, these info sections are not likely Business Page users’ most frequently read components of their pages. It is understandable that Facebook would want to eliminate unnecessary material from Pages biographies. Additionally, sections such as Mission, Company Overview, and Biography may contain the same information but rephrased or reworded slightly. It would reduce clutter and make more sense for Business Page owners, consumers, and Facebook as a platform to condense that material into one section.

As a reminder, your Page “Description” is the key panel on your Business Page. Basically, that’s what Facebook users will see first when they click on your Page. So when thinking about this change, ask yourself, “Do I want potential customers to know my company mission?” or “Do my personal interests really attract fans/should I include them?” The answers to these questions will help you determine what to pull from the soon-to-be deleted sections and add to your Page description.
